Restaurant Charlott
Dorint Hotel
The Dorint Hotel Halle requested a makeover for its restaurant, Charlott. The challenge of the modernization with minimal structural changes is being met by focusing on new material surfaces, a new lighting concept, and high-quality furniture.
As the winner design of a non-public competition, the Dorint Hotel is looking forward to implement soon.

The basic structure and space distribution have proven effective and will only be partially improved. The focus is on working with the existing structure and adapting the atmosphere through material and lighting interventions. Additionally, some existing design elements will be reduced. The lily motif will be completely removed from the design concept.
The walls will be painted in an off-white color without additional moldings or similar features. This creates a calm and clear spatial horizon, bringing tranquility to the overall design concept.
The ceiling will also be clarified through a targeted lighting concept. The extensive and busy penetration of the ceiling by fixtures for indirect lighting will be removed.
The cherry wood surfaces of the built-ins will be enhanced with a light, waxed oak veneer with 5-10% white pigment. This new surface is the most impactful new design element, creating an elegant yet contemporary ambiance. The oak forms a successful material combination with the existing upholstery of the built-in furniture.
The lighting concept for Restaurant Charlott divides the dining area into three zones.
The à-la-carte area already offers a pleasant sense of privacy, which will be further emphasized by the new lighting concept. Pendant lights hanging above each table evenly illuminate the tables in warm white, creating private islands. Wall lights over the tables in the perimeter areas of the zone achieve a similar effect. The rest of the dining area in this zone will not be additionally lit, resulting in a refined lounge atmosphere. The bar area invites guests to enjoy a drink or cocktail in the evening. Its dark materials and targeted atmospheric lighting on the counter focus the warm white light on private conversations for two and perfectly highlight the drinks. The anthracite-tinted glass surface in front of the suspended ceiling above the counter is indirectly illuminated from behind for an elegant appearance. A table lamp on the table in the newly created booth in the bar area offers the most private seating in the entire restaurant.
The tables in the buffet area are primarily used for breakfast and are illuminated more brightly throughout the day than in the other zones. For those who do not prefer the warm white light islands in the evening, this zone offers pleasantly illuminated seating in neutral white light. The buffet itself is only lit during breakfast times, with pendant lights in neutral white also used here.
